IT Recycling & Social Value
Even though Tier 1's main emphasis is on the re-use of IT assets, we recognise that there is a time when some equipment is either too old or too damaged to make it commercially viable to refurbish for continued use. We have a brilliantly innovative solution that offers unique CSR benefits. Have a look at our great video below which shows how our unique prison IT recycling initiative works.
Tier 1’s prison recycling initiative is a unique partnership between a prison, industry and charity. The residents receive a qualification in recycling as well as help instil a work ethic. Upon release, Antz Junction provides a ‘through the gate’ back to work programme jointly funded by Tier 1 and HMP Forest Bank from the recycling work undertaken at the prison. It’s a WIN-WIN and has helped 130+ ex-offenders find work experience, employment, apprenticeships, education and volunteering. We are proud to have been recognised with the prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise in promoting opportunity through social enterprise as a result of this programme.
It goes without saying that nothing handled by Tier 1 finds its way to landfill. With a manual disassembly process to break down items into their constituent parts as soon as possible in the process, we reduce waste and create efficiencies that huge, expensive to run machines simply cannot. Our downstream partners are thoroughly audited as part of our ISO accreditations.
Tier 1 has developed a recycling process that both fully complies with all data protection (GDPR) and WEEE legislation, but also provides the backbone to our unique social inclusion initiative, helping people back into work, breaking the cycle of crime and providing education and opportunities that so many in society desperately need.
